- There is no perfect resume. The best resume is the one that reflects your experience and sells your skills the best.
- Create a clean design and leave plenty of white space so it can be easily read.
- Never use a font size that is smaller than 10 points.
- Print your resume on good quality paper.
- Be concise. Try to fit your resume on one page, but if you have lots of experience, two pages are acceptable.
- Use action words.
- You don't need to tell everything on your resume. Be concise and to the point.
- Be accurate and proofread your resume for typos, grammatical errors and factual information.
- Don't include personal information such as photographs, date of birth, marital status or religious affiliation.
- Show that you are current by including your email, LinkedIn page or online portfolio in the name block.
- Focus on your accomplishments and avoid repeating the same information.
- Eliminate old experience. Focus on the last 10 to 15 years. If your earlier career is important to your job goal, briefly mention the experience without going into details. Also eliminate outdated technical or business skills.
- Provide a bulleted list of your accomplishments.
- Don't use pronouns in your resume; eliminate the use of "I".
