JOB RETRAINING FOR OLDER WORKERS
Are you 55 or older and looking for job training and placement, but have limited financial resources? If so, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is for you.
For more than 40 years, SCSEP has helped millions of Americans find jobs in community service and the private sector. Each year, more than 100,000 participants receive job training and over 20,000 are placed with employers through 69 grantees, including 13 national non-profit organizations and 56 units of state and territorial governments.
Trained, motivated older workers
SCSEP is an equal opportunity employer/program that provides employers with trained, motivated older workers who are:
- Experienced
- Qualified
- Responsible
- Talented
Some employers may qualify for a program that pays the new employee's salary during on-the-job training.
Strong work ethic
SCSEP participants possess a strong work ethic unmatched by most other employees. A recent survey of human resources managers showed that older workers are:
- Loyal and dedicated to the company
Committed to doing quality work
Benefits of hiring older workers
Hiring older workers offers employers a number of key benefits including:
- Providing good role models for younger workers.
- Bringing stability to the workplace by decreasing turnover, which reduces recuitment and training costs.
Becoming a SCSEP trainee
When you become a SCSEP trainee, you'll receive personalized help in meeting your goals, whether you want to learn a new skill, be placed in a job or just want a fresh start.
Part-time senior jobs
Following orientation, SCSEP participants are placed in part-time jobs with a nonprofit agency. The salary of the participant is paid for by SCSEP. This gives the agency a dedicated worker and provides the participant with on-the-job experience and an opportunity to re-enter the workforce.
Some participants are hired by the non-profit agency they worked for, while others may move to another non-profit after several months to a year to acquire new skills. The ultimate goal is to find a good job in the public or private sector.
